Update

My apologies to those of you who have been participating in the Glog since the beginning of the year. As many of you will have noticed I haven’t been glogging since the site launched.  Reason for this is I have a new version of Wordpress installed on our new servers but our former web host is making it difficult to export the old glog to the new site.  I’ve pretty much given up with them, so you should look out for new and imroved (but slightly empty) glog coming your way sometime in the next 2 weeks….it MIGHT mean you need to register again…I’ll keep you posted.

Sandy

ps - Your support of YYG so far has been TERRIFIC…Thank You !!

Phew. I was almost thinking you guys abandoned the glog after the site launched. :-)

And the yoyogames.com is doing great. Keep up the good work!

  2. elmernite Says:

Yeah, finally! A little bit of news!

Finally news about what`s going on!

I don`t mind I may need to register aigan, but I hope the data will be kept (the comments and stuff, that is).

  4. Pear Says:

I’ve been a member for a while, but I’m not that all disappointed with that news. But I’m glad to see news, I’ve been checking for a while but nothing but now something.

Yep sorry about that…this is my favourite place to have discussions etc….I’ll keep you updated, but it does look like we’ll need to forfeit the old posts as well as re-register.

  6. Oby Says:

You can import the posts from the RSS feeds if you can’t export them any other way.

If you’ve still got access to the WP backend, then there should be an export option to get the comments out as well.

Shouldn’t be any reason to lose anything from the database unless you want/need to.

  7. sandy Says:

Thx Oby. I use 1and1 as my web host (my own personal account) which is unfortunately where playsnack.com is hosted. 1and1 have disabled all of the “export” options in WP and they also appear to have hidden the directory where the WP raw data is held, so I think I’m stuffed if I want to move the Glog to YoYo’s servers where I have the full (public) version of Wordpress installed.

  8. Oby Says:

Hmm, thats a pain. Yeah, without being able to get to the database the comments will disappear, whilst I’m not 100% certain, I don’t think you can import the comments with the full install without the wp database file being exported first.

Its likely possible to run a script to drag them out of the comments RSS and import them that way - but thats probably more hassle than its worth.

You’d also have to factor in that the database structure from Wordpress 1.x and 2.0 revisions is different to the latest 2.2 build.

The posts will still pull in if you select import via RSS though, so its not totally hopeless. You can grab the feed URL from here and throw it into the 2.2 import section.

Then again, sometimes a fresh start isn’t a bad thing :-)

    Good luck either way.

You’re alive! Wait, *thinking of something useful to say*… I am not visiting YYG… wait, nvm… Eh, welcome back!

  10. sandy Says:

Oby, thx…we’ll get the re-skinned Wordpress site done today and try importing via RSS. Meantime I’m trying to use the YYG reg user base to avoid teh need to register again…means you’ll lose your login at the Glog if it’s different to the alias you use at YYG, but for a lot of folks I know this is the same….

    Daniel-Dane…”Hello”

  11. Daniel-Dane Says:

Yeah, couldn’t find anything clever to say. Hey, when do you get a proper YYG forum?

  12. comspy Says:

You know, you can export all the wordpress stuff via the Admin panel

    (Manage, Export tab)..

Then do a new installation of wordpress on the new servers and import that XML file..

  13. comspy Says:

Oops, sorry just read your above comment..

  14. GMmarine Says:

Woot, the glog isn’t abandoned, and I personally think a fresh start is good.

  15. Rusky Says:

maybe they should just finish the site and then get the new glog set up, so a fresh start would make sense! :D

  16. Medusar Says:

If YYG do that, the “tracks” of the eh… mistakes they made in the beginning will be erased. Which is better for the image :)

  17. sandy Says:

goodbye old YoYo Games Mistakes…..hello new Glog on the YYG website it is then……I think I’m just about ready to switch the link over.

playsnack.com will remain for a while as a little memory to all of us that it hasn’t been the smoothest show on earth all of the way :-)
…oh yeah and my awful typing skills too.

    Sandy

  18. Medusar Says:

Say, a week ago there was a memory upgrade and tomorrow there will be some maintenance to your server. I hope this won`t be every week, it is very unprofessional to be down that often.

  19. sandy Says:

Medusar….good point I hope not too. ACTUALLY last week our hosting company screwed up and so this is the same memory upgrade that didn’t happen last week :-(

  20. Rusky Says:

yuck. hopefully you can get your own servers sometime.

  21. sandy Says:

Rusky, we have better than our own servers…we have servers that are managed 24*7 by a very dedicated (but expensive !) team..same guys as YouTube ….

  22. Daniel-Dane Says:

    *Checking YouTube*

Hey, you are right. They also have that little delay before the site pops up.
