“Purchase Session Lost” error

Some of you reported this problem when you were upgrading from Lite to Pro…..apparently you need to enable “session cookies”…..and this problem will go away.  In i.e. this is in the “advanced privacy settings” dialogue box.

sandy - most people over the years have realized that cookies are no big deal and have them enabled all of the time. However, there are a few out there that are still afraid of them and think hackers are going to take over thier system as soon as they do. So be prepared for people to get angry when they realized what they have to do upgrade.

  2. Joerdgs Says:

Computer software is never without problems nowadays… there’s always something overlooked or incompatible.

  3. Michael Brinkley Says:

True - it is impossible to consider every possible contingency. I used to work technical support for Datastorm Technologies back before they were bought out by Quarterdeck and later Symantec. We produced a serial communications software called Procomm Plus. It was designed to connect over a telephone line to networks, ftp servers, bbs systems and University systems.

I was amazed at some of the things our customers were using our product for. One dairy farmer was using it to control his automated milking system. Another customer was using it to test tensile strength of steel fillimants.

These were things that would never in our wildest dreams have been planned for. Our mission statement cleary stated that we had to make our software work in our customer’s enviroment no matter what that environment was, even if they were using it in situations that it was not designed for.

So, yeah, it really is impossible to consider every possible issue that might come up, and be prepared to handle it.

  4. SenakuJin Says:

I forsee an evergrowing Regestration Faq in YYG’s future =) Nice to know though, perhaps you can include such a section already, as if i’m not mistaken the playsnack link was removed from the front page, so some may not know to look here.

  5. Michael Brinkley Says:

That is a good point. It would be a good idea for YoYo to put a link on the main page to this GLOG until the the BETA testing is completed for the new site.

  6. Daniel-Dane Says:

    Yeah — I realized that already ^_^.

  7. Daniel-Dane Says:

Hey, not to go off topic, but, I have now used both my keys up and I have saved the new key I get, but it still says I can’t register. It doesn’t even recornize my email when I enter it into the lost reg box.

  8. Daniel-Dane Says:

Might include, if I enter ANY email (my and one imaginated) it will “reply”: “Sorry, but there are no details in our records for ” as its title. Shouldn’t it say the email after the “for”? I just got this new laptop with Vista and I’ve already tried turning off Windows Firewall (just using that for now) and allowing all cookies in IE7, furthermore I have shared the shared files folder and opened Game Maker as admin (even though I already am). That only fixed the “Failed to set data for ””.

I think I’ve should have fixed that before registrating GM with my other key :(.

  9. Xekkosoft Says:

In addition, I didn’t receive a “Purchase ref” after registering my copy of GM7. I checked my spam folder and nothing turned up. Will I still be able to use that same key if I upgrade to a Vista computer later this year? If I need that purchase ref for re-registration, how can I get it resent?

I asked that question earlier on in one of the old Glog entries, but got no reply. Can someone please point me in the right direction this time?

  10. GMmarine Says:

I don’t see how I was able to register and other people weren’t… Anyways, I don’t think this will help that many people.

  11. cubehouse Says:

I’ve tried contacting Yoyo games in every way possible about my failed GM7 key, I’ve been told that a good way of getting your upgraded GM7 key is through the blog… so here is my attempt to make contact with you, I’ve been trying to register for a week!
Sorry this isn’t on topic, but I can’t find any other way to contact yoyo games.

  12. Dark Says:

Is ANYONE going to tell us WHAT is going on when some people don’t receive a license key in there email after purchase? And don’t say email, cause I did. Sunday. Its now Wednesday.

  13. Michael Brinkley Says:

I am not a YoYo rep, so please don’t think I am someone just trying to brush you off. I just thought I would make sure that you are using the right email address, because there has been some issues regarding that in the past week or so.

    admin@yoyogames.com

  14. Pear Says:

I was going to wait a while for every little bug or problem to be fixed until I upgraded because I knew all this was going to happen.

  15. Dark Says:

Yes, because I can log into the YoYo website with the account I used to register.

  16. cdm319 Says:

Sandy, sorry to go off topic, but was the Yoyo Web Services website not due to go up yesterday, or is it Wednesday next week?

  17. Daniel-Dane Says:

Yep, the only problems I had with registring was that the new keys I got wasn’t emailed me and I didn’t recornize (bad spelling?) my email when I tried to retrieve it. When I think about it, I used the same email to both keys…

Oh dear — What if I made a typo in the email?!

  18. Michael Brinkley Says:

Dark - I am sorry, I meant are you sure that you are using the right email when sending to YoYo to ask for assistance. I was just making sure that the email you sent Sunday actually went to admin@yoyogames.com.

  19. sandy Says:

    cubehouse…are you fixed ?
D-D, Xekkosoft etc….we have a database of who has succesfully upgraded and/or paid…….so if you didn’t get an email, lost it etc … we should be able to trace you…

  20. Daniel-Dane Says:

Great, just one thing; don’t ever, EVER call me D-D (pronounce it to find out why…).

I will email admin@yoyogames.com with all the details ;).

  21. benoitr007 Says:

Yeah, trust me. Never call him D-D…

I hope all the problems will be fixed soon. Good luck. ;)

  22. sandy Says:

    D-Dane ….sorry :-)
Dark…it’s taken us a while to decipher all of your emails…Sophie is sending you a new code that you can use on your own PC, provided you’re online on your own machine…….?

  23. Daniel-Dane Says:

    Heh, why not just Daniel?

And I have just send the email right now, not for a minute ago, only thirty seconds…

  24. Dark Says:

Yes, I have recieved my key. Thank you very much :D.

  25. mitchbbaker Says:

I know its off topic but when is the bank transfer system going to be set up?

  26. Arc Says:

Sandy, I have sent several emails to admin@yoyogames.com about not being able to upgrade my GM 6 key to the new GM 7 Pro key, and I have never ever receieved any kind of response back. Please help me, please?

  27. Pear Says:

I have one question about the blog entries. How to you put your website active on your name? So when you click on it, it takes you to your site. I miss that feature.

  28. Michael Brinkley Says:

Pear - see right below where it say’s “Logged in as” and has your name? Click on your name and it will take you to your profile. Put your website URL into the website field, save it and you are done. :)

  29. burn3r Says:

I have also been trying to contact YoYo games, both through the web interface and admin@yoyogames.com. I am also having trouble updating my GM 6 key to GM 7. I haven’t received a response to any of my emails, and I’m not sure if they were even received. I don’t know what else to do, I have waited a week to no avail and attempted to contact SoftWrap as was recommended by Mark Overmars. Any help would be appreciated - thanks!

  30. Pear Says:

Sweet thanks, :) sorry that was off topic I just wanted to know.

  31. Kururu Says:

“GM7… it doesn’t soon too good. Sorry, kupo.”

  32. sandy Says:

mitchbbaker - the bank transfer system is working, but be patient we have a long backlog, if you’ev already sent mail then we’ll get round to you in the next few days, otherwise email admin@yoyogames.com and we can send you bank details.

  33. sandy Says:

Arc…have you checked the email address you used to register on the glog ? We’ve sent you several emails and the excite mail bounces back to us, but we think the gmail address is getting through ?

  34. correojon Says:

    what about the offline registration?????

  35. sandy Says:

correojon…we’re testing the offline activation tomorrow. it should definitely by available by midweek.

  36. Daniel-Dane Says:

Hey Sandy. About the email I send you guys: Never mind, SoftWrap fixed it :P.

  37. Richard West Says:

Is it true that I can’t register Game Make 7 twice? I had to erase everything because of the MS updates was slowing down the computer. Is this problem on my end or yours? Please help! I have a print-out of the code you guys gave me.

  38. mitchbbaker Says:

@sandy thanks i just got the e-mail i’ll send it through soon.

  39. Joerdgs Says:

Any news? You guys should update more often, like once in a few days. Not just for major updates or problems. If you would update more we users haven’t got the feeling we are left in the dark.

And btw, would you pleeeease tell us how to solve the problem of GM Pro switching back to Lite?? There quite a lot of people experiencing that problem.

  40. Medusar Says:

@ Joerdgs: just a quote from the gamemaker site at www.gamemaker.nl/regfaq.html:

How can I unregister my copy?
    This is not possible.

So what I make up out of that is that you can`t switch back to lite anymore.

  41. HP Says:

medusar, that’s not what he’s talking about. He’s talking about people who have Pro, have registered Pro, and who load their registered software and find that the software is suddenly claiming to only be Lite.

This has never happened to me but several people have reported it. Sometimes it goes away if they close the program and open it again. Most likely something is malfing with the loader software that detects whether it’s registered or not.

They are not trying to switch back to Lite - they’re trying to stop the computer from switching back on its own.

  42. Daniel-Dane Says:

    @Medusar:
He was talking about the bug :P.

  43. Michael Brinkley Says:

off topic - But I will be soooooo glad when the YoYo games site is up and running. I am really getting tired of not being able to view the GM forums because too many people are connected to the server.

  44. HP Says:

ah, but do you think the yoyo servers will be any more stable, with the huge load we have? :)

  45. sandy Says:

Daniel-Dane …thank you for making me happy this morning :-) I’m soooo glad your problem is fixed.
Michael B - we will probably not try to move the GMC Forum immediately…it may still be running on the current server for a couple of weeks after we launch YoYo in beta….will keep you updated tyhis may change.
HP - They had better be more stable, they’re costing about 5 times as much as the GMC server :-( The reason we chose our web host was because of their (expensive, but fanatical) support.

  46. elmernite Says:

I’m sure you don’t want to give a release date for the site. Not after what happened with the release of Gm7.
But can you atlest give a general idea when it will be coming. (Before end of month, in a week-ish, ect…)
I’ll understand though if you wish not to say anything.
    -Elmernite

  47. Daniel-Dane Says:

Yeah, I am also happy that it got fixed. SoftWrap just reseted my reinstall “permission”. There is also another guy having the EXACT problem as me, he hasn’t got any response from them yet, though.

Btw, I have heard rumors about some GMC’ers have been invited to see the new (beta) of the forum/site. Hard to believe but; is it true?

  48. Joerdgs Says:

Medusar, I wasn’t saying that users where trying to switch back to Lite themselves (who would want that after all that trouble getting Pro), but that a bug or something reverses the registration! I experienced this myself on my dad’s computer.

    And I got a response Daniel-Dane :) Just not the one I expected :(
Just take a look at the topic.

  49. Daniel-Dane Says:

    I came, I saw, I replied.

  50. Chronic Says:

Daniel-Dane, a few people gained access to the yyg test forum because of a dns and domain issue. They wern’t formally invited, but some of the GMC staff did give out the url to people they trust.

We (GMC staff) have not yet started helping with the beta testing of the site, but from my understanding it should be on the……. ;)

  51. sandy Says:

Somebody got on to the test forum ?? Well done…if they did, then I think they would have emailed me by now to say it was cr&p. ;-) .cos it isn’t good enough for Beta yet. We’ll be slowly letting a few people on to the site very soon and won’t hold back when we know that the feedback is positive and there are 0 serious issues….we CERTAINLY won’t have a countdown like we did with the current release !!

  52. sandy Says:

elmernite..the answer on the date …..is …..when it’s ready we’ll open it up for public beta. It’s definietly not months away and I hope it isn’t weeks away….but NO WAY will we let thousands of people loose on problems that we already know about …. Sophie is just starting to recover from the backlog of mail from the download release…we tested that release, but only internally and too quickly…NEVER again..for your sake and mine :-)

  53. Jls900 Says:

I sense lots of people googling for a YYG forums right now…

anyways, i’d rather you guys wait longer to release it done and have people whining about wanting the forum then have it come out not ready and have double the people whine about flaws.

  54. burn3r Says:

    Hi Sandy,
Have you had a chance to read my post from the 9th? I don’t see a reply, and you’ve replied to posts since then.

I’m still unable to upgrade my registration key and have not received any answer, either on here or from admin@yoyogames.com. It sounds like I am having the same issue as cubehouse.

Please at least let me know that you are aware of my problem or you are working on a solution. I don’t know what else I can do to get assistance. Thanks, and sorry to be a bother and hijack this thread.

  55. elmernite Says:

Ok, Thanks! That’s all I wanted know. And yeah, I can’t blame you for not giving a date. That wouldn’t be good.
    -Elmernite

  56. Richard West Says:

    To Whom It May Concern;
I’ve just upgraded to pro by using the same registration key, so far it’s doing great! Luckly I have printed the page with the current key awhile back. I hate say this! You mentioned that the same registration key can’t be used twice. Well, I’ve done it, & it worked! I proved you guys wrong! Shame on you for misleading us users! I’ve just brought the book week ago, still waiting for it.

    Richard West, registered GM7 user

  57. Daniel-Dane Says:

    @Richard:
Who said you can’t? The trouble first starts when the app downgrades or you do it on Vista (improperly).

  58. Daniel-Dane Says:

    Btw,
@Chronic, you must be lying, no one has contacted me xD.

  59. Joerdgs Says:

Would be great to help with the beta testing… but I’ve got enough on my mind at the moment. Exams closing in, project that needs to be finished before deadline, work… and my 18th birthday tommorow (Friday)…

  60. Richard West Says:

    Daniel,
What I’m trying to say with no hard feelings, is that people don’t print out the code that was given to them by YoYoGames. It’s a matching system between two handshake (meaning YoYo Games & the End users) do any of you understand this?
I hope this clarified to allot of people.

  61. Daniel-Dane Says:

I saved it, and it still didn’t work before SoftWrap had fixed it, no hard feeling ;).

  62. Daniel-Dane Says:

    feelings* >_>

  63. Medusar Says:

Sorry, I didn`t know there was a bug about switching back to the lite edition. Sorry ;)

  64. correojon Says:

“correojon…we’re testing the offline activation tomorrow. it should definitely by available by midweek.”

Deadline´s gone (again)…any news? You should take more seriously this (and I´m also referring to having us users informed of what´s going on instead of giving a fake deadline and then ignoring our requests for a week, like you did last time on this same subject). It´s a shame that I can´t legally use GM7 PRO offline, while the crack´s been out for more than a week already. You are telling me pretty clearly (and all the people in my situation) what to do when you ask us to re-register for GM8.

Sorry to be so rude, but what do you expect with the “help” you are providing?

  65. Chronic Says:

“correojon…we’re testing the offline activation tomorrow. it should definitely by available by midweek.”

SHOULD.. not WILL BE… in my opinion the use of “should be” does not make it a deadline.

  66. correojon Says:

Well, in my opinion when you are trying to offer a service to your customers you should at least keep them informed and not keep pushing back the “deadline” and then dissapearing for a week and leaving them alone cuestioning themselves what´s going on. But this only applies if you wish to keep your customers loyal to your product instead of using cracks or just leaving.

But again, it´s only my opinion.

  67. Dr. Cakey Says:

So THAT”S what the 503 error page was.

  68. Benjamin Says:

correojon, the reason things aren’t working properly is that GM7 was released early under the pressure of the community. Think about who is the rude one.

  69. HP Says:

Benjamin - While it is rude to yell too much at Yoyo for not being perfect (who would be? especially under this kind of pressure) you also have to be fair and reasonable in your comments. The lack of offline activation has less to do with the possibly-rushed release. It wasn’t planned from the beginning, so no matter when the release actually happened, the offline activation wouldn’t happen until later.

You could argue that the reason that the offline activation isn’t ready yet is that they’ve been too busy picking up the pieces from the mess caused by the slightly-early release to have time to get it ready, which might be true. I wouldn’t know. But even when it’s ready and gets STARTED the offline thing is going to take a huge amount of time and work (and cost), so it won’t reach every individual in a big hurry. Personally I would suggest making use of helpful internet phone services to cut down on costs from having to call around the world… :)

  70. sandy Says:

correojon …you have a good point…the others are right, we rushed the release of the website and knew we would have porblems…the thing that has frustrated me so far is how long it takes us to get things fixed…so your point about my well intentioned, but misleading promises is taken very seriously by all of us at YoYo.

We’re hiring and hopefully that will help our customer service a lot.

Meantime, I believe the offline activation is now working, I will be 100% certain when I get to the office this morning and we call our first “experimental subject”….

  71. correojon Says:

“We’re hiring and hopefully that will help our customer service a lot. ”
So, you´re hiring someone to help with customer support? That´s a great idea, it´s shows profesionalism on your side.

Again I never wanted to whine just to harm Yoyo or give it a bad reputation, but to point a problem that is there and I think it´s very important, even more important than releasing the new site (not talking about offline registration but of the lack of info). Again, I would like to apologize if some of my comments seemed too harsh, english is not my mother language and sometimes what I write may not match exactly what I want to say. And I also admit that sometimes I was really frustrated when writing my comments.

Sandy, it would really be great if you added a small guide on the offline registration, I have some questions about it that I think everyone has too:

-You say you are going to call each one of us, but is it possible for us to call you? I mean, I think the success rate of each call will be higher if the user chooses the moment to call. It will also reduce costs for Yoyogames.
-Do we need to be at our offline computer when you call us or it is enough to just tell you the GM7 key, or something? If we need to be at our ofline computer it definitely would be much easier if the user is the one to call.
-What is the data you need us to provide you with during the call?

    Thanks ;)

PS: my previous comment is still awaiting moderation, but you can delete it if you want. Just after I posted I didn´t like it and was going to edit it, but I forgot you can´t :P

  72. elmernite Says:

Long time *cough* no updates *cough*

Anyway, I’m not asking for the site released I just wish we would get updates a little more often. I understand your busy and all, but a little bit of news would be welcome.
    Anyway’s, take your time.
    -Elmernite

  73. sandy Says:

Elmernite…you should buy some cough medicine. We’ve been busy solving a few softwrap and related issues and the website has come along nicely. We’ll have a private beta starting in teh next few days…might be as late as Monday or Tuesday next week and will hopefully move to a full beta once we get the first feedback and bugs corrected. We know already of things we want to change before we go “final”, but will release the “beta” without them as we want the GMC to get their hands on the new services.

See my new post for more fun :-)

  74. elmernite Says:

You have your people picked out for the private beta?
You know, if you need anyone…..
    -Elmernite

  75. Daniel-Dane Says:

Hey, he likes me better xD.

  76. DadGun Says:

Sandy, I still tried this and it did not work. I used my GM5 and my GM6 key to upgrade but still got that message. Can I send you my GM6 and you send me a new GM7 key?

    -DadGun-

  77. MisterBik Says:

Hi Sandy. I have tried to upgrade my version of Gamemaker also. I tried three different browsers, cookies on and off, chocolate chip, you name it. Firewalls on and off. Still no go.
And that’s no big deal really, I’m easy going. I have, however, submitted the form, with my details, provided alternate email addresses to make sure, at least 4 times now, over a 3 to 4 week period. I haven’t even received a note saying ‘wait, we are working on it’ or _anything_.
Maybe the info on how to go about it is buried in a faq or blog somewhere, but it doesn’t seem to be any place prominent, and you can’t expect people to read through pages of blog to find out what they need to do.
I’m not bothered about not upgrading speedily, I realize you guys are busy etc, I am a little offended that you don’t even bother to set up ‘AT LEAST’ an automated reply to let people know what the hell is going on.
Because what the hell IS going on? If i have to wait x amount of time, I don’t mind, I’d just like to know that’s the case.

    thanks!
    MisterBik.

  78. sandy Says:

    misterbik..I sent you email.

  79. sandy Says:

dadgun, yes, if the key is legal I can fix it for you…sandy@yoyogames.com

  80. DadGun Says:

I finally got it to work but I keep getting multiple emails of my same key. Is there a way to stop this?

  81. mrsmes Says:

well the beta is working amaizingly until now, I just went on to the internet and opened the page and then all I got was error 500, a lot of people have been talking about this but I never expected it would happen to, me I thought it was some myth going around on the forums, but I think it’s safe to say it’s confirmed error 500 does exist.
