New Glog
June 12th, 2007Is up and running, but there is no official link to it from the site, maybe until next week…. so I thought I’d give our regular readers/contributors an early chance to have a look at the “re-styled” glog.
So..try blog.yoyogames.com and see if you can leave some feedback. Look forward to seeing you there !

Update
June 4th, 2007My apologies to those of you who have been participating in the Glog since the beginning of the year. As many of you will have noticed I haven’t been glogging since the site launched. Reason for this is I have a new version of Wordpress installed on our new servers but our former web host is making it difficult to export the old glog to the new site. I’ve pretty much given up with them, so you should look out for new and imroved (but slightly empty) glog coming your way sometime in the next 2 weeks….it MIGHT mean you need to register again…I’ll keep you posted.

ps - Your support of YYG so far has been TERRIFIC…Thank You !!
Progress
May 1st, 2007Well, we’ve been live for a bit less than a week…but we updated the website today…hope all of you can appreciate the performance imrpovements…and the “Play” section actually shows how many games there are in total, so I can chuck my calculator in the bin
We’ve also discovered some issues with the site and fixed many of them. Though you can expect weekly changes for the next 2 to 3 weeks as we update “look and feel” as well as usability issues, feel confident that the database will not change so your reviews, comments etc……and …most importantly …uploads…will not change.
Expect that we’ll announce our first competition soon…with some very enticing cash prizes… and keep your feedback coming because we listen !!!

To the GM Showcase Community
April 26th, 20071. We’re genuinely sorry that we’ve upset you.
2. We want you to be part of the YY Games Community..give it a chance…it’s NOT the GMC or anything like it.
3. We don’t intend to have your content on YYG if you don’t want it to be available to the hundreds of thousands of game players we want to attract there.
4. We will load many of the games from GMS on to YYG. Unfortunately it’s now too late to stop it happening as we want to launch very very soon…with hindsight this may have done this differently, but it’s too late to stop.
5. We will remove any games that you don’t want to have on the YYG site…the process is in place to do this. You just have to ask…in return I ask you to be patient and give it a few days…who knows you might like what you see ?
6. YYG will pay to keep the GMS Forum up and running until we can find a satisfactory way to make you feel more welcome in the YYG community.
7. Give us a chance … most of you haven’t even seen the site yet !!!!

GM Showcase joins the YoYo Games family
April 23rd, 2007As we prepare for the launch of our public Beta site, we are pleased to announce that Games Showcase has joined the YoYo Games family. Games Showcase has been supporting the GM community for the last 4 years and we are happy that Thomas (aka snabela) is joining force to make YoYoGames.com the destination site for all GM users, fans and players alike.
The services which until now have been running on http://www.gmshowcase.dk will continue at http://www.yoyogames.com.
When YoYo Games (YYG) beta goes public –i.e. very soon - we will start moving the content from the current GM Showcase server to the YYG server. All games, comments, reviews, ratings, etc, will be transferred and used in the YYG website which will showcase the best GM games, like GMS does now.
When everything is ready http://www.gmshowcase.dk will start to redirect users to the YYG website http://www.yoyogames.com.
Thomas will continue to test, accept games and will also help organize the reviewer’s team.
“ I would like to thank all of you for your support while we have been known as GMS. I encourage you to move with us to YYG and be as great and supportive as you have been here J. I consider this a great step for GMS and Game Maker in general which is why I agreed to join force with YYG and continue the GMS services over there.”
You can read Thomas post on GMShowcase website.

Uploading “Illegal” Content
April 21st, 2007I’ve noticed a thread in my last post about “policing” content, so thought I would spin out a seperate post on this as I’m bored waiting for the site to go live and this is an important issue !
The best way to ensure that the game content is “acceptable” is to always use “safe mode”. I realise this means you can’t use extensions and there are other restrictions, but over time these will be the games that our users (remember these are new people , not the existing GMC) will come to accept as the safest games to play.
We’re making some adjustments to the site and subtle changes to GM7 that will support the use of safe mode more than ever and you’ll see these before the summer holiday season ! (for those if you in the southern hemisphere …you’ll see them before winter sets in
)
This is NOT to say that you shouldn’t use extensions etc, and there will still be great games written that are not able to run in safe mode…but until we make some longer term changes to GM, then safe mode is your best bet to easily get higher rankings and more downloads if that is your highest priority.
Re screening games…we can only do this automatically for a bunch of reasons and we’re screening as much as we can to make sure nobody can post harmful content on the site. I obviously can’t tell you exactly what we’re doing as that would breach the security ![]()
Nearly There…….
April 17th, 2007We’re in the final stages of getting the site ready for a full public beta…..I can’t and won’t set a date, as I’ve learned how painful it is to disappoint you all
….but it’s getting close, so keep checking…just don’t keep hitting the refresh button..it’s not that soon !!
I’m sorry if we’ve been very quiet, but we HAVE been busy….
…we’ve HIRED 2 new people to support the community. Nick MOULDS started yesterday, he’s an IT Specialist and will help manage the website. Clayton SPICER will start next Monday to assist Sophie with customer support issues as well as helping Nick on web admin.
You may also have noticed that the GM Forum is now part of the YYG URL…a small but significant change.
I’ve had the GM7 EULA rewritten as well as the site T’s and C’s tidied up so that they line up more neatly and are more friendly….NOTE…the cjhanges may not please all of you as the purpose of the legalese hasn’t changed hugely, but hopefully they are easier to understand and interpret ! There will also be a sample EULA on the site to be edited and included with your own GM7 titles that you want to distribute…you’ll get all of this with the beta when it launches…
Finally, a big “THANK YOU !!!” from all of us at YYG to the beta testers for your efforts so far…can I ask for one last big push over the next few days to dig out any remaining bugs ?? ..note that feature requests won’t make the public beta release at this stage …

March 7th, 2007
Some of you reported this problem when you were upgrading from Lite to Pro…..apparently you need to enable “session cookies”…..and this problem will go away. In i.e. this is in the “advanced privacy settings” dialogue box.
